ALL NEW TOOLING!
The Obiekt 279, or Object 279, was a Soviet experimental heavy tank developed at the end of 1959. It was developed at the Kirov Plant.
It offered greatly increased cross country terrain capability including swampy land, soft soils and cut trees. It had auto fire-fighting systems, smoke laying equipment and combat compartment heating and cooling system. The tank hull and turret were heavily protected with thick armor.
One reason the tank was abandoned was that the Soviet military stopped operating heavy fighting vehicles in 1960. Nikita Khrushchev forbade any tanks weighing more than 37 metric tons.
