USS New York (BB-34) is the first ship of the New York class battleships and the first to carry a 14"/45 caliber gun.
She was part of the U.S. Navy force that reinforced the British in the North Sea near the end of WWI.
In the beginning of WWII she served as a convoy escort for ships to Iceland and Britain. She saw combat during Operation Torch and late in the war moved to the Pacific and provided support for the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The New York participated in operation magic carpet, carrying troops returning home.
When classified obsolete she was used for nuclear weapon tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946.
