The Da Vinci Rolling Ball Timer kit was inspired by a sketch of an escapement
mechanism drawn by Leonardo da Vinci. Using the laws of motion and the
concepts of gravity and kinetics to measure the passage of time. The mechanism
employs precision gears to power a moving platform which in turn propels a
rolling ball. Timing speed is controlled by adjusting the weight and balance of
the gear-propelled armature. The reciprocating movement keeps the ball in
motion.
Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, botanist and writer. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance man, a man whose unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived.
