In da Vinci's original drawings, this stone throwing siege catapult showed gears, a release mechanism, and a solid wood base. His catapult's force was acquired from the tension stored in two flexible, wood limbs. The designers at Academy followed the basic drawing to capture the workings of a mechanical masterpiece.
