The Autoblinda AB 41 was a high performance car designed to fit the missions and the needs of both the Italian Colonial Police for putting down disturbances in Africa, and the Italian Cavalry who needed a new and more refined armored car. Officially presented at the opening of FIAT's Mirafiori plant in May 1939, the AB 40 was, at the time, something of a cutting-edge vehicle.
Thanks to innovative solutions such as double drive and spare wheels mounted as neutral to help get over obstacles, it was a match for any foreign rival in in the same class. The AB 41 version, introduced in 1941, included several improvements, yet its main weapon (a 20 mm Breda 35 cannon) remained the same.
The radical design featured a rear mounted engine, with the unique ability to be driven from the front of the rear. This benefit was fully exploited by mounting machine guns facing both front and rear. The Autoblinda could also be fitted with different wheel and tire combinations for different uses. The highly detailed kit is new from the ground up. With 100% new tooling, the Autoblinda AB 41 contains all the design precision and contruction accuracy Italeri is noted for. The comprehensive decal set and paint instructions further ensure a most successful and beautiful scale model can be built.
